Fish Habitat Islands

Groundwork Milwaukee
The project includes redeployment of floating island fish habitat in the Milwaukee River Estuary Area of Concern (AOC). The project is part of a larger effort to restore and improve Milwaukee’s fisheries through the introduction of artificial habitat that incorporates native plantings. Project outcomes include improved habitat by maximizing vegetative cover and root growth of the Gateway to Improved Long-term Spawning (GILS) project which in turn provides the optimal value to aquatic life in the Milwaukee River Estuary AOC.
