The year 2016 marked Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s third annual rain barrel workshop. Over 50 people attended to assemble and paint 30 rain barrels. People purchase 50-gallon used sorghum barrels with converter kit at a discount and decorate them on-site. Riverkeeper facilitates conversion of the barrels and helps install them at private homes. Riverkeeper educates participants about water quality, conservation, and reducing stormwater runoff. The program mitigates impacts from stormwater runoff and sewer outflows. It is a fun, interactive way to bring people together and improve our waters.
