The college it is named for has left town. The wealthy citizens who built its grandest homes have long since moved on. What began as a suburban haven became an urban community decades ago. Few Milwaukee neighborhoods encompass so many different worlds. "You name it," said one resident, "and we've got it"--from architects to outlaws and from sprawling Victorian mansions to tiny studio apartments. Some residents are rebuilding the neighborhood's architectural heritage; all are building a new heritage of diversity.
