Johnson's Woods lies between West Allis to the south and Wauwatosa to the north. You know exactly where you are when you visit this blue-collar enclave next to the freeway. "It's a nice little pocket," summarized one long-time resident, expressing obvious affection for her district of shady streets, cozy homes, and a central green space that connects the community to its wooded beginnings.  With cemeteries to the east, industry to the south, and cultivated fields to the north and west, in the early 1900s, Johnson's Woods was a rare fragment of forest primeval.
