Menomonee Valley

Historic Milwaukee, Inc.

The Menomonee Valley is not a neighborhood in the usual sense of the term. Although it hosts ballplayers in season and gamblers all year, the Valley's only permanent residents are rabbits, rodents, and raccoons. Despite the fact that no one lives here, this distinctive piece of urban real estate was a vital resource for Native Americans, a center of industry for the European newcomers who displaced them, and a continuing source of both employment and recreation in the twenty-first century. The Valley is globally renowned for redevelopment that blends parkland, wetland, and recreation with the dominant theme of clean industry.
